Vaping vs. Smoking CBD Hemp Flower

Vaping vs. Smoking CBD Hemp Flower

20th Nov 2020

A lot of people are discovering CBD hemp flower and finding that it’s the perfect addition to their daily routine, being the purest form of hemp that there is. Hemp flower, also known as “CBD flower”, refers to the raw buds of hemp, which are picked from the industrial hemp plant at peak maturity. These buds are where we find the rich variety of compounds that we desire, including a vast array of cannabinoids including CBD, as well as terpenes and even essential nutrients.

Hemp flower has been around for ages, obviously, but it’s just now becoming a huge trend in the industry. One advantage that it has over other hemp goods, besides its purer nature, is the fact that it comes in a wide variety of strains so that users can select the unique effects that they would like to experience.

The two most common ways to use CBD flower are smoking and vaping. Both methods involve inhaling the compounds into the lungs, which allows for activation within minutes, and a heightened potency level due to the nature of this delivery method.

Smoking and vaping obviously have a lot in common. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be discerning when choosing which method. That’s why we’re going to break down both of these methods, in order to help you decide which route is best suited for you.

Smoking CBD Hemp Flower

Smoking the buds of the cannabis plant has been a practice for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Of course, today’s means of smoking are much more advanced than those that were available to our ancestors.

There are a few ways to smoke raw CBD. One is to place the buds into the bowl of a pipe and light the pipe while pulling through the mouthpiece. The other means is to roll the buds up in specialized rolling paper, and then light one end and inhale through the other. Both methods deliver CBD in the same manner, so it’s just a matter of personal preference.

How to Smoke it

If you’re going to smoke hemp flower, you’re going to first need to decide which method of smoking it you’d like to try. You’ll need to also buy the required equipment, whether it be a pipe or papers. If you go the paper route, make sure you find only high-quality, chemical free papers that are safe to inhale. If you choose a pipe, you’ll want to take your time looking through the selection that’s available, as there are different kinds of pipes available, including very small ones and large ones that produce a lot of smoke per hit. Some pipes also use water, such as bongs and bubblers, which cool down the smoke as you inhale.

Pros

#1: May be More Bioavailable

Some argue that smoking flower is more bioavailable than vaporizing it, which means that it may provide faster and stronger effects by absorbing into the body more efficiently. This has yet to be proven, but a lot of anecdotal evidence suggests that it’s definitely possible. The theory behind why this may be the case is that vapor simply isn’t as potent as smoke, and therefore doesn’t carry the same levels of compounds.

#2: Closer to Nature

Many like the idea of smoking CBD flower because it’s a more natural means, that doesn’t require the use of technology. Smoking the buds of cannabis is a long, traditional practice carried out by many cultures throughout history, and some feel that this practice is sacred compared to that of vaping.

Cons

#1: Less Discreet

Smoke is denser than vapor, and therefore produces thicker clouds that linger in the air, along with that aroma that we all know very well. Therefore, if you’re trying to be as discreet as possible, smoking may not be the best choice between the two. Further, smoking is likely not as portable as a vaporizer, as it requires that you carry around either papers or a pipe, along with the buds themselves, as opposed to a neat and tidy device that contains the flower and fits into your pocket.

#2: It May Be More Irritating

Smoke can irritate the throat more than vapor, as it can be harsher.

Vaping CBD Hemp Flower

Vaping CBD hemp flower is different, as it involves the inhalation of vapor rather than smoke. Vaping is a technology that has been around for a little over a decade, but it has, in a very short time, become dazzlingly advanced and high-tech, and many people vape CBD on a regular basis with much success.

How to Vape it

To vaporize the flower, you’re going to need the flower, of course, along with the right device. There are several vaping devices out there that are made specially for flower, and you absolutely cannot use a regular vaping device made for e-liquids, as this will cause the flower to burn.

A flower vaporizer uses either conduction or convection to heat the flower in a way that produces vapor, which is then pulled into the mouth through the mouthpiece. The flower goes into a chamber, which is heated through the battery when a hit is fired. Vaporizers come in all shapes and sizes, and many have adjustable output levels so you can control how much vapor is produced, and how hot the plant material gets.

Pros

#1: Inconspicuous

Vaping is more discreet than smoking, for a few reasons. One is that vapor dissipates in their air quickly, without leaving behind a lingering aroma that clings onto materials. Also, the vapor is thin, and so it doesn’t produce a huge cloud of smoke. Also, many of today’s flower vaporizers are portable and pocket-friendly, and so you can easily travel with them.

#2: Smoother on the Throat

Most people find that vaping is easier on the throat than smoking, being less harsh and likely to irritate.

Cons

#1: May Require More Maintenance

Vaporizes often require some more maintenance than pipes. This maintenance includes charging the battery regularly, replacing the heating element and taking apart the entire setup to clean it regularly, as the flower can slowly create a film that interferes with the connections.

#2: Not Compatible with All Hardware

You will have to be extra careful to make sure that you choose the right type of hardware so that it’s fully compatible with flower as opposed to other types of CBD products.

#3: Errors are Possible

Although it’s rare, there’s always a possibility that your device will malfunction due to technological error, and when this happens, you’ll need to repair your setup in order to be able to vape your CBD buds once again.

Find What Works Best for You

Both smoking and vaping raw hemp flower can be uniquely enjoyable, and more and more enthusiasts are using flower daily to get in those cannabinoids and terpenes that they know and love. If you’re going to invest in CBD buds, the first thing to do is decide whether you wish to smoke or vape and buy the necessary setup to do so.
